Responsibility is taken, not given.

Of course life is rarely that simple, and some people are helped by a gentle push – but one of your most vital roles as a modern technology leader is preparing and encouraging people to take responsibility of their own volition.

This is one of the many reasons that ruling by fear or fiat is entirely ineffective in the medium-long term.
