Weighted Down Launch

(originally posted to LinkedIn)

Happy new year everybody.

One of the many things I love about being a Fractional CTO is that it leaves me time during the week to work on my own projects. Because of that, my resolution for this year is to launch three new projects, each of increasing scope and ambition. The first is a fairly simple web app that I wrote to help myself and figured might be helpful for others too. Weighted Down launches as I write these words.

Weighted Down is a simple food diary, weight tracker and medication log. The first version was a simple food diary that actually dates all the way back to 2011. It’s no secret that I struggle with my weight, and so around 6 months ago I started on Mounjaro, which has been a life-changer for me. Of course, to track my progress I created an overly complicated spreadsheet, with a variety of graphs, so that I could monitor my progress … which inevitably ended up getting a little unwieldy. Then one day I noticed that a row of data had gone missing. Uh-oh. This wouldn’t do.

I met with a friend for lunch that day, and joked that I should update my old project to incorporate my tracking and projection spreadsheet. The idea wouldn’t leave my head and later that evening I had the basics up and running.

Since then I’ve made more than a few tweaks, and realised that I really should be sharing this with more people who will find it helpful on their journey. It’s not for everyone, it’s not got all the nutritional information on there for starters, there’s no pre-populated database of world foods, there’s no barcode scanning, but it’s just enough that it’s helping me stay focused and I’m now down over 4 stone (and counting).

There’s a generous free tier, 60 days of actual recordings, please do feel free to give it a shot. If it doesn’t help, feel free to let me know, and no worries if it’s not for you – but whatever you use on your journey, best of luck.
